Super Naturist British Columbia!

When I enter the gates at Sol Sante Camp on Vancouver Island, British Columbia I feel myself relax and my body and spirit go Ahhhhhhhh! Weekends pretty mellow. RV’s are rolling in and tents are being set up Friday evening. My husband and I may take our dinner at the club house. There is a kitchen that everyone can use. There is a BBQ so my man may do up our steaks on the patio overlooking the little lake while I fix some sides. There would typically be other people cooking and cleaning up at the same time. There may be old friends there or new ones to hang out with. Sharing the kitchen contributes to mixing and the friendly atmosphere.

There are regular and special event weekends. On a special event weekend there would probably be a movie night Friday night that we watch together on the big screen. Saturday nights there are potlucks with entertainment on the big weekends. The Solstice Crab Fest and the August long weekend Salmon BBQ with a live band draw a lot of people. Other nights it is great to sit around a fire in the evening. Finishing the day with a hot tub and shower is a great option! We have to cover our special bits where food is served and need a bum towel to sit down but when it is warm we are completely nude all day long.

Sol Sante has 175 acres including miles of trails through a west coast forest. There are people all over the place on Saturdays everywhere you look. Some are hanging out at the dock and around the pool. There may be work parties because we are a member run club. These are actually a lot of fun. In the afternoons people may be jamming on the Club House deck. There may be an art workshop like body sculpting in the Arts and Activities Centre. Volleyball is popular and there is a petanque court, horseshoes and a field for games. Sundays there may be radio controlled sail boat races to watch and a brunch potluck and live drawing. Actor members even put on a play for the membership that had been produced at a local theatre just for us. It really is Super Natural British Columbia (our provincial slogan)!

Sol Santé Club on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada

The Sol Santé Club on Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada is my favourite club in the world. It is my home club and there is no place like home. When I come through the gates I just go aaahhhhhhh as I take all my clothes off. Sweet freedom! Yesterday afternoon I was with a few friends nude in the sun on the deck overlooking the lake – reading and chatting, relaxed and mellow. I feel more relaxed about being nude in this community than I do in front of my own mirror! That’s  probably because naturists are so comfortable in their own skin!

The nature in the North West is a big draw for me. Trees are so tall here. As I walk the trails which I’ll do when I finish this blog, I feel like the first person on the planet – just me and nature — but more people are coming! The club is holding our first annual “Walk Run Sol Sante Nude 2011” on Canada Day July 1st. We have people planning the route and doing a spring clean on the trails this weekend. Boutique volunteers are arranging for the swag. We plan to have music and nude dancers at the water stations. It will be great to see the forest alive with walkers and runners on the day.

It is the people at Sol Santé that really make it a comfortable place to be as it is all about social nudity and nude recreation. We have musicians jamming in the sun, artists doing life drawing with nude models, bare bum radio operated sail boat races and the best potluck dinners I’ve ever attended. The Salmon BBQs with a live band on a hot summer night is the highlight of the year for me. To do all that without sexualizing or exploiting the nudity takes a mature culture and that is what we’ve got here. Come visit Y’all!

How I got started with nude recreation

I got started in nude recreation as a babe at the beach. In my mind’s eye I see myself ditching my diaper and heading into the shallows of Georgian Bay, Lake Huron, Ontario, Canada. I feel warm air and sunshine on my skin, the waves lapping at my tummy as I dig into the sand. On shaky bow legs I stagger back to my mom to show her the pebble I’ve found. At least that is how I imagine it. Only babies got away with that kind of freedom on the beaches of my childhood.

Then there were long years of wet bathing suites until the late ‘70s. On a hike and camping trip on the Kalalau trail on the island of Kauai in Hawaii I rediscovered the joys of sun and surf on skin. At that time the valley was well known as a nude friendly because you had to hike in about 10 miles across a shore line so rugged that roads will never be built and that keeps the crowds away. I was a little apprehensive as we started the hike in and was somewhat startled when we encountered the first topless hiker. However I just felt so at ease being a naked nature’s child there and it was all off! The valley is spectacular — a lush tropical paradise just like the Garden of Eden! Hiking to the waterfall through the rain forest and eating guava right off the trees I felt like the first woman but without the shame at being naked. It was so much fun playing chicken with the waves running in and out of the surf until we were tired and sprawled on the sand to soak in the sun.  It was surprising how quickly I became comfortable spending the day unclothed.

At the time it was just a happy interlude of nude recreation in an otherwise clothed lifestyle. In my 40’s I found a nudist camp on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, Canada where I met and married my husband. Over the last several years I’ve been able to spend more and more time in the nude. I love to frolic nude in the sun and the water – an unbeatable combination for me. I find I have a freedom that I never dreamed possible as a young adult and a child. Isn’t life grand!
